Good enough to go out of your way
The New Orleans Menu by Tom Fitzmorris

“The place still exudes the uncluttered grace of its day and the menu has hardly changed over the decades. The enormous porterhouse for two is best enjoyed in the privacy of one of the dining room’s discreet, curtained booths.”

Gambit Weekly

Crescent City is as much a potato house as a steak one, with five of the six available spud preparations suggesting that God created the potato to satisfy our dual predilections for saltiness and crunchiness.

3 words: private curtained booth! So pleased that my husband had a birthday monday so that I may finally have one of the best meals EVER! Such traditional ambience inside, so cozy in the booth, you know it's good when the menu is short and direct.

Choose from a small list of starters, then your cuts and types of steak, but 8 STYLES OF POTATOES!? My Irish husband was in heaven. We chose 2 kinds of "schpuds," au gratin and german fries. Fluffy, cheesy yet delicate, not too heavy, and downright amazing.

Never have I seen anyone down a $60 steak with more enjoyment than my husband did that night. I had the Filet wrapped in bacon. So tender and juicy, I completely forgot about our bottle of Rioja (we had to take it home)! It was really that good. There are no more words for how insanely delicious their food is.

We wanted something off the beaten path where the locals go. This place has been there for many many years apparently. They still do things the exact same way they did 70 years ago. All their steaks come in from Chicago, and they are all handcut on site once you order your steak. They do a double age, a wet age, and then a dry age for a total of 45 days. I ordered the bacon wrapped filet for $25 (shocking!!) It was like butter in my mouth. The steak comes out sizzling on the plate, and it was fantastic! No steak on menu was over $33. I definitely would go here again!

Best steak I've had all year! Cooked to perfect temperature with just the right amount of butter -- enough to make it sizzle on the plate but nowhere near enough to make it greasy. My steak was so tender that the knife cut through it like water.

Service was quick and excellent. We were seated immediately and didn't even have a reservation (then again, we "beat the rush" and our party was small).

Though the steaks were undeniably the best part, the decor was close behind, with tiled floors and charming old curtained booths lining the wall for diners looking for privacy. If you're looking for a classic New Orleans experience and a great steak in town, this is the place to go!
